In 2007, Chimba joined Sanlam Developing Markets, part of one of Africa’s most respected financial services groups. Over seven years, he advanced from Accounts Payable Clerk to Financial Controller, overseeing budgeting, variance analysis, and general ledger operations. He also played a key role in implementing new financial systems, demonstrating the ability to manage complex processes and deliver precise reporting.

Scaling Retail at Shingai Group
Chimba’s leadership prowess became even more evident when he joined Shingai Group in 2014 as Head of Operations. Initially responsible for SPSK Enterprises, a supplier of Zimbabwean goods to South Africa, he envisioned and launched African Basket in 2016, a retail brand that quickly became a household name in the ethnic food sector.
Under his guidance, African Basket grew from a single store in Midrand to 16 stores across three provinces by 2022. He also spearheaded a state-of-the-art milling operation producing over 20 tonnes of mealie meal daily.
