As video becomes a major part of marketing across the global, and YouTube leading the pack as the most preferred video based social network, Botswana cannot afford to ignore this platform.
There are 152,000 YouTube users in Botswana, with some channels having video views of over 2 million views. The top video searches on YouTube by Batswana are “songs”, “movies”, and “music”.
The top most subscribed channels are The Boys, WCCC BW, and Botswana Television. The channel with the most subscribers in Botswana is “The Boys”, with 18,700+ subscribers, with just 21 videos. The Boys (YouTubers) grew up in Botswana and live in South Africa. Pranks, social experiments, interviews and questions. The second most subscribed channel is the “World Community Counselling Centre (WCCCBW)”, with 11,700+ subscribers, and 1,184 videos. The third most subscribed channel is “Botswana Television” the national broadcaster, with 8,800 subscribers, and 131 videos.
It must be noted that “The Boys” have a good viewership of videos considering that just 21 videos have earned them that much subscriptions, also resulting in over two million views of videos.
Although YouTube boasts 1 billion users, its reach extends far past that. You don’t have to sign up to be a user to view content on YouTube. As a result, YouTube has become one of the biggest search engine platforms. Many of these searches are for “How To” videos. Service industry businesses who can offer this type of content work well on this platform.
