The top five websites, as in most visited and used, in Botswana are FNBBotswana.co.bw, Gov.bw, Dstv.com, Jobsbotswana.info, and UB.bw. It is important to however look at the use of websites from a national perspective by looking at the prefix, and for Botswana it is .bw.

In light of this, the most used .bw websites are FNBBotswana.co.bw, Gov.bw, and UB.bw. It is not an accident that the most visited website in Botswana is FNB website, neither is it that the Government Portal is the second most visited, as it is not that UB.bw the national university is the most used academia.

In July 2019, in our first issue of Moakanyi Magazine, we explored what made Batswana “the Enterprising Risktakers of Africa”, and that is attributed by three major factors – government empowerment strategies, the stable, well managed financial sector, and empowering academia.

Such is the bed rock of the tech savviness of Batswana as they conduct more business of banking via online means, and also are always looking for opportunities from the national portal that provides detailed information on how to start a business, grow it, and get relevant support, including formal education and exporting of products and services.

FNB Botswana | www.fnbbotswana.co.bw

FNB is the leader of fintech in Botswana, and arguably in South Africa as well, hence no wonder why it is the most visited website by Batswana.

Botswana’s closest business partner is South Africa, and as products and services are exchanged between these two nations. Furthermore, FNB is present in Zambia and Namibia, meaning that the four countries are together financially – Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. Being the country in the centre of SADC, and especially these four countries, Botswana is easy to access funds for travellers, and the often move between these countries via road.

The card less ATM services, and online banking all contribute to the redirecting of much attention to the FNB website. FNB is at the centre of e-commerce in Botswana, if not the leader in all respect as a financial product and services provider, and the is the reason why it is the most used by Batswana.

The Government of Botswana | www.gov.bw

The most informative website in Botswana for a visitor, citizen, whether social or business is the Government of Botswana office. Botswana is the most empowering government in Africa, and has empowered its citizens, transforming them into enterprising people for export of products and services, and the results are being seen today. That empowerment is advanced through this portal that always has key updates and links to opportunities for the citizen, as well as the visitor and business person.

The website is divided into four clear sections – for citizens, business, visitors, and government departments. The home page is easy to use, and for a government website, has no clatter or too much information on one page.

Whichever section you opt for, there are clear and cleanly designed links that givens you more information, redirect you, or give you downloads for further reading.

The government website was designed for ease of use and depth of content. Though some sections have outdated content, there are links that can still get you more updated content for what you are looking for.

University of Botswana | www.ub.bw

With 15,000 students (2018), the University of Botswana website is the most used .bw website by Batswana. With a clear and clean design, the home page has obvious and simple links to more detailed pages including – Admissions, Programmes, Faculties & Departments, Research, Campus Life, About UB, as what comprises any other world class university and academic website.

Not easily accessible to public, are online services for students, lecturers, researchers, and partners, making it a well-connected online community, as must be the national university.
